Working closely with the ten Greater Manchester Councils that make up the GMCA, this gives local people more control over issues such as transport, regeneration, homelessness and attracting investment into the city-region.

 

GMCA’s Communications and Engagement Team is responsible for ensuring that all parts of the GMCA has a coherent, consistent and coordinated approach to communications, engagement and media, all of which is delivered to a high standard. We work with numerous stakeholders, including our own colleagues, officers in partner organisations, members of the public, elected members, journalists, and industry experts. This role will be based in within our media function, and will support the communications and engagement functions as needed.

We believe that bringing powers closer to local communities leads to better decisions and outcomes. We want everyone in our city-region to be fully informed of the ground-breaking work being done by Leaders in Greater Manchester.

 

We are looking for somebody who shares these beliefs, and is passionate about media engagement, as well as experienced in delivering innovative media and communication strategies. This would ideally include experience of a range of media engagement at a national and local level, including Westminster based journalists.

Candidates should have great judgment and an ability to deal with fast-breaking news. Negotiation and interpersonal skills with a proven history of building positive and meaningful working relationships with journalists and other stakeholders, is also sought.

 

We are looking for candidates with excellent written communication skills and an ability to explain complex policies, concepts, programmes to non-specialist audiences in a clear and engaging way. The successful candidates will have to manage multiple News and Media projects at the same time as instructed and act as a point of contact for the media.

 

The successful candidate should be enthusiastic and supportive team player and also be able to work independently, in order to continually contribute to an excellent team. You should have a desire to protect and enhance the public image and reputation of GMCA, the Mayor of Greater Manchester and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, and feel that you will flourish in a fast-paced local government environment.
