The Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) is a statutory body consisting of the ten local authorities of Greater Manchester and a directly elected Mayor. About you:

 

This specialist post in the Legal, Governance, Information Governance & Business Support Directorate provides a rich experience; based around placements that will engage you in work that is core to GMCA’s priorities. The placements will be in the main functional areas to give graduate trainees full working experience of the directorate.

The Legal, Governance, Information Governance and Business Support Teams provide statutory functions and support to the Mayor and the whole of the GMCA. The work delivered by the teams supports the implementation of all ten of the GMS priorities and wider GM activity. The main functions performed by the teams are to:

 

• Ensure lawful decision making and provide legal advice

• Support governance arrangements to the GMCA statutory bodies, portfolio bodies and executive structures including the Local Resilience structures

• Provide strategic coordination to ensure linkages are made across all governance bodies at member and senior officer level, underpinning good decision making

• Provide legal advice to the Mayor, GMCA, Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) and Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service (GMFRS)

· Provide the statutory function in relation to Information Governance for the GMCA, TfGM & GMFRS

• Provide strategic oversight of business support, PA support to the Mayor, Chief Executive & leadership teams, management of correspondence for the Mayor’s office and the organisation

• Provide oversight of Tootal reception services, organisational security and business continuity planning

· Provide strategic co-ordination for a GM system approach to better use and sharing of information and data with key stakeholders in GM and beyond

· Provide advice and guidance to support information assurance organisational capacity and for GMCA, TfGM, GMFRS programmes and projects

· Ensure legal compliance and operational transparency in relation to information rights law for the GMCA, TfGM and GMFRS

Eligibility

Graduate in any discipline from a Greater Manchester educational institution or resident within Greater Manchester boundary (the local authority areas of Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford and Wigan).

Training and Development

Over the two years of the programme you will be supported to take part in a range of Learning and Development opportunities which will contribute to meeting the needs of the authority, our local community and the region.

On successful completion of the two-year programme, you will be offered a permanent post with the GMCA.
