Your role:

The Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) is a statutory body consisting of the ten local authorities of Greater Manchester and a directly elected Mayor. It has wide-ranging economic development, regeneration and transport functions and an ambitious agenda to make Greater Manchester a better place in which to grow up, live, work and invest.

Our Graduate Trainee Programme provides a unique development opportunity for high calibre Quantity Surveying graduates wishing to pursue a career with a dynamic, exciting and socially responsible employer.

 

About you:

 

This specialist post in the Place Directorate provides a rich experience; based around placements that will engage you in work that is core to the GMCA’s priorities. There will be 2 main teams that will require graduate support:-

The Development Team, which oversees investment of funding into infrastructure, mixed use developments and housing developments on brownfield sites, and the Core Investment Team, which oversees investment of funding into businesses and property development, including residential schemes, colleges and infrastructure projects.

The duties of the Graduate Quantity Surveyor will include:

Project monitoring

Attending sites for large and or/complex schemes to understand the development’s progress and provide assistance as required

Participation in any site progress meetings, representing the interests of the GMCA

Assist in reviewing external monitoring surveyors’ reports to identify key risks/issues

Advising the Transaction Manager on solutions to risks/issues identified and provide support in conversations with developers on these issues.

Reviewing and checking information submitted to substantiate drawdowns against funding, for example, land acquisition payments, invoices for project specific work/fees etc.

Preparing drawdown reports summarising the status of the development, highlighting any risks and mitigating factors.

Advise the Transaction Managers of any issues identified in the construction reports/site visits

Assist with the provision of specialist support to Local Authorities in the preparation of development cost plans for emerging projects.

Eligibility

Graduate in any discipline from a Greater Manchester educational institution or resident within Greater Manchester boundary (the local authority areas of Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford and Wigan).

Training and Development

Over the two years of the programme, you will be supported to take part in a range of Learning and Development opportunities which will contribute to meeting the needs of the authority, our local community and the region.

On successful completion of the two-year programme, you will be offered a permanent post with the GMCA.
