We want every child in Greater Manchester to have the best start in life. We know that to build a healthier, more productive and more equal society we need to focus our investment on the early years.

To realise this we are investing in our early years workforce, through the creation of the Greater Manchester Early Years Workforce Academy. The Academy aims to ensure that staff across a broad range of roles have the skills and support to help children realise their potential.

The Director role will lead the development of the Academy, working across the early years system to ensure the model adds value and delivers on our priorities. The priority areas of work for the successful candidate will be:

·         Establishing the overall strategic direction of the Early Years Workforce Academy.

·         Developing and driving the investment strategy, identifying opportunities to secure match funding for the Academy, building strong relationships with investors.

·         Leading the development and implementation of the Academy; managing delivery against agreed time-frames, budget and reporting against agreed performance measures.

·         Developing and overseeing delivery of a core development programme that drives change across the culture, values and practices in the early years system.

This is a high profile, demanding and unique role, requiring you to work across multiple stakeholder groups and with senior officers. The post holder will report in to Assistant Director, Public Service Reform and work closely with partners across the school readiness agenda in Greater Manchester


About you

We’re looking for someone with extensive experience of leading high profile programmes that seek to drive cultural change, this could be through working in the public, private or voluntary sector.

-          Possess experience of securing external investment and influencing across a complex stakeholder system. 

-          Be confident with translating vision and strategy into delivery.

-          Be a creative thinker, able to identify problems and articulate evidence informed solutions.

-          Crucially you’ll be values led and committed to making a difference to the lives of children in Greater Manchester.
