Job Description: 
Are you passionate about protecting the public and have a drive to be outstanding? Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service is looking for experienced Fire Safety Regulators to join our Protection Teams working across Greater Manchester to keep communities safe.

If you are a Crew Manager or Watch Manager with a Level 4 Diploma in Fire Safety and have experience of complex enforcement and developing procedures and guidance to support service improvements you can join us as a Senior Fire Safety Inspector.

About You: We are seeking an experienced Fire Safety Regulator with a proven track record in thriving within dynamic work environments. Your dedication to assisting businesses in complying with legislation through comprehensive advice and support, including delivering both online and in-person presentations, is crucial. Your skill set should encompass conducting audits and inspections, utilising a range of enforcement powers including serving comprehensive enforcement notices and investigating criminal offences.

Your background should reflect experience in collaborating with partners to enhance safety in the built environment. You will be accustomed to responding to various consultations to ensure safety across all phases of a building's lifecycle. Additionally, you should have a track record of identifying and implementing service improvements through the development of guidance and procedures.

As part of our Protection Progression Framework you do not need to be a substantive Watch Manager to join us as a Senior Fire Safety Inspector within Protection but you will not be eligible to transfer to another area of the service as a Watch Manager unless you progress through our Promotion Pathway.

We have changed our delivery model to ensure our Fire Safety Regulators can focus in key areas and now have  specialised Fire Safety Teams, including a Risk Reduction Team proactively auditing from our Risk Based Inspection Programme, an Investigations and Enforcement Team who tackle non-compliance, a Technical and Consultations Team who lead on influencing the safety of the built environment  and Higher Risk Team who lead on the regulation of high rise buildings, hospitals and other high risk sites.

Available roles: We are looking for experienced and high performing Fire Safety Regulators to join our Higher Risk, Technical and Consultations and Investigations and Enforcement Teams.

 If you join our Technical & Consultations Team you have the option of hybrid working with an expectation you work from our Headquarters up to two days per week. You will lead on responding to consultations including as part of the new Building Safety Regime and providing technical support to the Directorate and wider service including contributing to the development and delivery of training packages.

If you join our Higher Risk Team you will lead on regulating the highest risk premises in the region including COMAH and large infrastructure sites, hospitals and high rise buildings. You will play a key role in supporting the new Building Safety Regime through a regional model.

If you join our Investigations & Enforcement Team you will tackle complex cases of non-compliance using the full range of enforcement powers and drive forward prosecutions.

Roles in our Higher Risk and Technical and Consultations Teams require people to achieve third party accreditation in line with the NFCC Competency Framework for Fire Safety Regulators and on achieving accreditation an additional annual payment of £4,000 will be made.

Roles in our Investigations and Enforcement Team require out of hours working on a self rostering shift system which requires 16 late shifts and 6 weekend shifts (2pm – 10pm) in a 12 week period for which a 10% payment is made.
