Help make Greater Manchester a better place to grow older

Greater Manchester Combined Authority is made up of the ten Greater Manchester councils and the Mayor, who work with other local services, businesses, communities and other partners to improve our city-region. The GMCA gives local people more control over issues that affect their area. It means the region speaks with one voice and can make a strong case for resources and investment.

The Opportunity

In March, Greater Manchester became the UK’s first age-friendly city region, international recognition from the World Health Organization for the plans we’ve put in place to improve the lives of older people. Working as part of the Greater Manchester Ageing Hub, you’ll be helping deliver these plans so older residents in GM are able to contribute to and benefit from sustained prosperity and enjoy a good quality of life.

We set up the GM Ageing Hub with our partners to coordinate a strategic response to the challenges and opportunities of an ageing population. You’ll be providing flexible administrative support across programmes of activity which includes work and economy, age-friendly places, healthy ageing, housing and planning, transport, and culture.

Who we need

You’ll be directly affecting the lives of all older people in Greater Manchester – and all of us as we age – so our ideal candidate will be passionate about making a difference. We’re looking for someone with experience of delivering effective administrative support to deadlines and working on multiple areas of activity with changing priorities. You’ll also be experienced at drafting or writing communications material such as web content or news stories.

As part of your apprenticeship you will be required to undertake 20% off the job training to support you with completing your apprenticeship. This will involve completing a Level 4 Business Administration Technical Certificate as part of your apprenticeship programme.

Applicants of all ages are strongly encouraged.

Main Responsibilities

  • To provide flexible administrative support across the full range of GM Ageing Hub activities to support the delivery of the Greater Manchester Age Friendly Strategy.
  • To arrange meetings, take minutes and proactively following up on actions, and organise events
  • To produce a monthly electronic newsletter for the Ageing Hub, maintain and update the Ageing Hub web pages, and support the management of the Ageing Hub Twitter account.
  • Build effective relationships with the broader Ageing Hub team and partners, working collaboratively across GMCA and partner organisations.

Studying and Academic Experience (Desirable)

  • Experience of relating study such as assignments or an activity carried out in the workplace that required you to relate to academic concepts, theories and professional practice.
  • An ability to use critical thinking skills so you can put across your work in a critical and informed way
  • Experience of referencing work and creating a bibliography
  • The ability to use your time to complete your apprenticeship in a timely manner
